Scotland got off to a losing start at the Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, with a score of 87 not out from Sterre Kalis leading the Netherlands to a seven-run victory in Nepal.

Chasing 157-6, Scotland reached 119-3 in the 16th over, with Katherine Fraser hitting a swift 41 and captain Kathryn Bryce getting to 42.

Sarah Bryce added 30, losing her wicket in the 18th over.

Four byes and a six from Megan McCall in the penultimate over kept Scotland in touch but she was out from the next ball.

Needing 11 from final over to win, Ailsa Lister and Priyanaz Chatterji could only muster three singles from the bowling of Silver Siegers.

Heather Siegers and skipper Babbette de Leede each made 18, but Kalis was the Dutch star, making her undefeated 87 from 60 balls and crushing 14 fours along the way.

Rachel Slater was the pick of the Scottish bowlers, taking 3-24.

The Netherlands sit top of Group B on two wins from two outings, along with Thailand.

Both nations have beaten Zimbabwe, who Scotland meet next on Thursday.
