June Bunyan: Body of British woman ‘murdered’ in LA flown home | UK News

The body of a British woman allegedly murdered in Los Angeles has been repatriated to the UK.

June Bunyan, 37, originally from the Isle of Arran in Scotland, had moved to the US to pursue her dream of becoming a defence lawyer.

Her body was discovered on 11 September, with Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reporting she had suffered “traumatic neck injuries”.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have arrested and charged Jonathan Renteria with her murder.

The 25-year-old suspect, understood to have been Ms Bunyan’s husband, has also been charged with mutilation, disinterment and sexual contact with human remains.

He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

Ms Bunyan’s family confirmed her body had arrived back in Scotland.

A GoFundMe page, set up by her friend Vicky Tulika, has so far raised more than £18,800.

A family statement on the page read: “There truly aren’t enough words to thank each and every person who donated, shared, or supported us in any way.

“This has been an incredibly difficult time for our family, but your messages of kindness, compassion, and encouragement have meant the world to us.

“It’s deeply moving to see the impact June had on so many lives.”

Ms Bunyan’s funeral service is scheduled to take place at Brodrick Parish Church on Arran on 31 October. She will then be laid to rest in a cemetery on the North Ayrshire island.

Renteria has pleaded not guilty to the charges, with bail set at $4m. He is due back in court on 18 November to set a preliminary hearing date.

A Foreign Office spokesman previously said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in USA and are in contact with the local authorities.”
