Wicketkeeper Jordan Cox has signed a contract extension with Essex after being named in England’s squad for the second Test against New Zealand.

Cox, who moved to Chelmsford from Kent in 2024, hit 204 in Essex’s current County Championship game at Leicester.

The 25-year-old’s new deal will keep him at Essex until at least the end of 2028 season, having so far scored more than 2,000 runs for the club in all formats.

“He’s a high-quality player who has already shown his ability across all formats, and at just 25 there is still plenty more to come from him,” director of cricket Chris Silverwood told the club website., external

“His attitude, professionalism and hunger to improve have been excellent, and we believe he will continue to play a major role for Essex over the coming seasons.

“We are looking forward to seeing him build on what he has achieved so far, both at county level and on the international stage.”

Cox has played nine games for England in T20 and 50-over white-ball formats but has yet to win his first Test cap.

He was due to play against New Zealand in November 2024, a series Jamie Smith missed while on paternity leave, but broke his thumb during practice and had to fly home.

On his new Essex deal, Cox said: “We have built a strong group both on and off the field, and I believe we are building towards success for ourselves and our fans.

“I am excited to continue my journey here, keep contributing to the team’s ambitions, and help bring more memorable moments to Chelmsford and the club in the years ahead.”
