Jon Moss quits as Scottish FA’s VAR chief after 52 days

“It is a measure of the esteem in which he is held in refereeing globally that he has been offered a top job in a different continent.

“The work he has undertaken with us as VAR manager has already strengthened our operation and we will begin the process of recruiting a replacement immediately.”

After he retired from refereeing at the end of the 2021–22 season, Moss became a manager at Professional Game Match Officials Limited, the body responsible for refereeing games in English professional football, until his departure in March.

The 53-year-old Englishman insisted he leaves “with only fond memories” of his stay in Scotland but that “this is an opportunity of a lifetime”.

“I have loved my short time at the Scottish FA and already I believe clubs, players, managers and supporters see a significant improvement under Willie’s leadership,” he added.
