Joel Makin crowned British champion

Joel Makin beat Mohamed ElShorbagy in a five-game thriller to win his second men’s British title.

The 29-year-old Welshman saw off the number one seed and defending champion 8-11, 15-13, 11-3, 8-11, 11-2 in Weybridge.

British number one Georgina Kennedy was crowned women’s British champion for the first time after beating three-time champion Sarah-Jane Perry.

Perry won the title in 2015, 2020 and 2021 but lost 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 to Kennedy, with the world number six avenging her loss in that 2021 final.
