Jess Fishlock: Wales player delighted to break scoring record

Ward, who retired in March 2023, was in attendance at Parc y Scarlets as Fishlock broke her record and says she is pleased for her former teammate.

“I knew it was coming, it was a little bit sad for me, but I’m genuinely delighted for Jess,” she told BBC Radio Wales.

“It’s been coming for a while. It was a feeling of genuine pride at being her teammate for so long and being part of this journey that she’s on.

“To witness the goal as well, it’s nice to be here and see it in person. I’ll make sure I see her after the game to give her a congratulatory hug.”

Wales boss Rhian Wilkinson added that she was pleased Fishlock achieved her record in front of her home fans, with just over 4,000 supporters seeing the special moment.

“There wasn’t any doubt about Jess breaking the record,” she added.

“I’m really happy she got to do that in Wales, in front of her family and in front of the Welsh people, it was a fantastic moment.”
