Jersey beat Guernsey by 22 runs in the first match between the Channel Island rivals in a T20 World Cup qualifier.

The win kept alive Jersey’s hopes of reaching the finals in India and Sri Lanka next year.

But Guernsey’s first-ever campaign in the final round of qualifying for a T20 World Cup is all but over with one game left against hosts the Netherlands.

Batting first, Jersey recovered from a tough start to make 160-4 as Harrison Carlyon scored 63, with Luke Bichard taking 2-36 for their opponents.

In reply, Guernsey’s top order collapsed against the spin of Carlyon and Dominic Blampied and they were 4-3 after three overs.

Matt Stokes and Ollie Nightingale’s 122-run fourth wicket stand restored some competitiveness to the Guernsey innings.

But the Sarnians fell short of the target as they made 138-5 in their 20 overs.

Despite having narrowly lost their opening game to the Netherlands and then having their match with Italy abandoned because of rain, Jersey know victory over Scotland on Friday could secure their place at the T20 World Cup.
