Somerset head coach Jason Kerr has signed a new two-year contract to keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2028 season.

The 52-year-old former Somerset all-rounder has been in charge at the County Ground since 2018.

Kerr guided his side to third in Division One of the County Championship last season and has also won the One-Day Cup in 2019, as well as the Vitality Blast twice, in 2023 and 2025.

He previously led the club’s academy and second XI from 2005 to 2015 and then became a first-team bowling coach before stepping up to the head coach role.

“My hunger and desire to be successful and to develop players only gets stronger,” Kerr told the club website, external.

“It’s incredibly exciting when you look at the potential of the club. The group of players we have can achieve great things.

“It’s been an incredible journey so far and one that’s brought successes to the club. Hopefully, we can add to that success in the coming years.”

Somerset’s director of cricket Andy Hurry said Kerr’s passion for the county is “plain for all to see”.

“As well as leading the team to three major titles, he has instilled a culture within the dressing room that has enabled our players and staff to thrive,” said Hurry.

“This is evidenced in the number of players and coaches who have been selected for global tournaments and international cricket over the last few years.”

Somerset are unbeaten in their first three County Championship matches this season, with two wins and a draw, and are second in the table, only behind Warwickshire, who have played one game more.
