Welsh freestyle BMX rider James Jones has announced his retirement from the sport.
The 30-year-old from Swansea was a founder member of the Great Britain Cycling Team BMX freestyle park programme in 2018 and competed at four World Championships.
But Jones has suffered with injuries during his career and said on social media: “I think everyone knows I’ve been struggling with a wrist injury the last one-two years which has never got better.
“We were doing temporary fixes but now it’s time to leave it recover naturally.”
A career highlight was victory at a FISE European Series Freestyle Park event in Chatearoux, France, in the summer of 2019.
In the summer of 2021, Jones was selected as a travelling reserve for the Tokyo Games as the sport became an Olympic event for the first time.
“The Olympic journey is definitely a key highlight in my career, watching Declan Brooks and Chaz Worther making history in front of your eyes is no feeling I can describe,” he added.
“Honoured to be a part of it. Thank you British Cycling and Team GB for selecting me as an alternate to represent Great Britain.
Jones said he would now be offering one-to-one coaching in 2025 and “still shredding the skateparks”.
