Ivan Toney: Brentford striker’s future ‘up in the air’ – Thomas Frank

Ivan Toney’s future at Brentford is “up in the air” but he could be involved against Liverpool on Sunday, says Bees boss Thomas Frank.

The 28-year-old striker was left out of Brentford’s opening Premier League win over Crystal Palace amid transfer links to the Saudi Pro League and several English clubs.

BBC Sport understands Brentford have turned down a £35m bid for Toney from Saudi side Al-Ahli.

“Ivan trained the whole week. Trained with good attitude in every aspect. He could be involved, he could not be involved,” Frank said.

“He could be here after the 30 [August] and he could not be here. Basically everything is up in the air.

“I’ve said the whole time that if he’s here I’m very happy, if he’s not here then I’m happy on his behalf.”

Toney joined Brentford from Peterborough in 2020, and scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games for the Bees in the 2022-23 season.

He was part of the England squad which reached this summer’s European Championship final, despite missing the bulk of the club season while he served an eight-month ban for breaking Football Association gambling rules.

Frank declined to provide an update on any negotiations Toney was having with clubs.
