Irish election likely to overshadow British-Irish meeting

The Republic of Ireland’s general election results are likely to overshadow discussions when Irish and British ministers meet in Dublin on Tuesday.

The British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference (BIIGC) takes place twice a year.

Micheál Martin is expected to host the session as outgoing tánaiste (Irish foreign minister) with Helen McEntee, the Republic’s justice minister.

Their parties – Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael – did not secure enough seats to form a government alone, with talks on forming a coalition set to take place.
