Irish Derby: Los Angeles wins in thrilling race at the Curragh

Los Angeles won the Irish Derby at the Curragh to give trainer Aidan O’Brien a record-extending 16th triumph in the race.

Ridden by jockey Ryan Moore, Los Angeles finished three-quarters of a length clear of Sunway in second place and a further half-length in front of the 6-4 favourite Ambiente Friendly.

The victory came after a thrilling finale to the flagship race at the Curragh.

Los Angeles, with odds of 13-8 came from third behind fellow O’Brien-trained City of Troy, as well as Epsom runner-up Ambiente Friendly, to take the win on the home straight.
