Igloo recalls coolers over finger amputations and injuries

Over a million of Igloo brand rolling coolers have been recalled in North America after customers reported injuries including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations from using the product.

The coolers, which cost between $80 (£63) to $140, were sold on Amazon and on Igloo’s site as well as at Costco and Target from January 2019 to 2025, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The tow handle can pinch people’s fingertips against the cooler, causing amputation and other crushing hazards, the agency said.

About 1.06m of the 90 quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers in the US as well as 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico were recalled.

The more than 1 million coolers included nearly 60 different models.

In total, 12 people reported experiencing fingertip amputations, bone fractures and lacerations from using the handle, which the Consumer Product Safety Commission said customers should stop using right away. They were encouraged to contact Igloo for a replacement handle.
