Stanley cups have been a lifestyle staple for a couple of years now, with their online popularity turning them into objects of adoration and envy.
Celebrities like Jessica Alba, Adele and Meghan Markle have been spotted around their neighbourhoods wielding the colossal tumblers. TikTokers are showcasing them as part of their day-to-day wellness routines. And all this has contributed massively to the cups recent apogee.
But along with their popularity came infamy. From claims spreading terror regarding lead-laden insulation (a claim immediately clarified by Stanley), to crowds rushing to supermarkets up and down the US as soon as the latest line or cheapest deal drops – the brand has had to fend off a fair amount of negative PR.
But on the flip side, the fanaticism speaks for itself and thus, when I was offered to review a fancy new line, which retails for an eye-watering £44.99, I simply could not turn it down.
The new Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate™ Tumblers come in Polar Swirl and Rose Quartz Swirl, and at first glance, the design caught my eye.
Decorated with an attractive swirl pattern in either grey and white or pink and white, it’s not surprising people want to show these cups off on social media.
Upon receiving mine, the first thing I noticed is this is a product designed not only with functionality in mind, with its double-wall vacuum insulation, but also with a strong sensory appeal.
Wwhat I was not expecting was for this tumbler to have a comfortable soft matt texture that’s easier to grip while appearing smooth to the naked eye.
As soon as I picked it up I couldn’t help but notice its gargantuan volume and hefty weight. After all, this 1.4 lb tumbler holds 1.2l of liquid.
I immediately filled it to the brim and realised it becomes rather heavy – obvious, I know. But to my surprise, I soon noticed that the handle stays on the left side of the straw when the lid is on, so being a righty, it felt less ergonomic unless picked up with the left hand.
Despite that minor observation, this is a great water bottle to keep on hand at home or in the car, keeping you hydrated with ice cold water throughout the day. The fact that its dishwasher safe sets it worlds apart from other water bottles, especially for those who, like me, simply refuse to hand wash their dishes and utensils (don’t worry, I always wait until I have enough for a full load).
Would I lug it around on London’s public transport? Probably not, unless I want to get an extra arm workout in.
