‘I don’t understand’ – Kirklees Council meeting descends into chaos

Kirklees Council remains without a majority – or a leader – after a chaotic annual meeting resulted in voting being postponed.

It was the first full meeting since Reform UK took 29 out of the 69 seats to become the largest party on the council, but having failed to secure a majority it led to both Reform leader Sarah Wood and the Green Party’s Andrew Cooper putting themselves forward to lead the authority.

However, the vote was abandoned after some new councillors, including Wood, admitted they didn’t understand all the rules.
