Hundreds of West Midlands homes still without power

Hundreds of homes across the West Midlands remain without power, following heavy snowfall brought by Storm Goretti.

The number cut off however, has fallen significantly since Friday, when thousands were cut off. National Grid (NG) said it was continuing to work around the clock on repairs to power lines brought down in the storm.

A yellow weather warning from the Met Office remains in place for ice across the region with temperatures still hovering around freezing.

West Midlands Trains and Transport for Wales warned passengers there would continue to be disruption in the wake of the storm.

NG said it had brought in engineers from other areas and urged customers to continue reporting power cuts.

On Saturday morning, it reported more than 700 power cuts remained in Staffordshire, with a similar number around Birmingham and its surrounding area.

There were almost more than 800 homes in Shropshire that remained without power.

On Friday, NG’s engineers had faced 10,000 homes without power in Shropshire alone.
