How Trump’s Jesus-like image and Pope feud are sparking backlash

President Donald Trump is facing growing backlash after posting an image on Truth Social depicting himself as a Jesus-like figure.

The AI-generated image, which has now been deleted, showed Trump appearing to heal a sick man in a hospital bed. The image post came hours after the president posted a lengthy message criticising Pope Leo XIV.

The president has since said he thought the image was depicting him as a doctor.

BBC’s Sarah Smith explains the president’s row with the pope and how some of his most ardent supporters are reacting.
