The White House East Wing has been torn down to make way for the construction a new ballroom, months after President Donald Trump said that the new space would not “interfere with the current building”.

Trump administration officials told CBS, the BBC’s US partner, that during the planning process, it became apparent that the best option would be to demolish the entirety of the East Wing.
