More than 3,000 people were killed by last week’s 7.7 magnitude earthquake, Myanmar’s military junta has said. Hundreds more people are missing and the toll is expected to rise.

Rescuers are still unable to reach parts of the country devastated by the quake.

As the BBC’s Nick Beake explains, the BBC has been reporting from inside Myanmar during the week, since the disaster struck, revealing widespread devastation.

Some survivors have been pulled out from the rubble but many others have not been as fortunate.
