Horizon scandal: ‘Cleared 15 years after taking fall to save mum’

Ravinder Navi has returned to his family’s post office for the first time since wrongly being convicted of theft as a result of the Horizon computer scandal almost 15 years ago.

In February 2010, Mr Naga falsely pleaded guilty to stealing £35,000 after auditors discovered an alleged shortfall at his mother’s post office in Greenock – but appeal judges overturned his conviction on Thursday.

He says he took the blame because he was worried his mother wouldn’t survive a potential prison sentence.

“I feel if I hadn’t done what I done 15 years ago, I wouldn’t be sitting here now getting my conviction overturned. I’d have been sitting here now getting a letter saying that my dead mum was being exonerated,” said Mr Naga.

He is the eighth victim of the Post Office Horizon scandal to be cleared through the court system in Scotland.
