Homes without power in Bedworth during heatwave

More than 1,000 homes are without power in Bedworth after a fault with underground cables.

National Grid Power Distribution says it was first alerted to the power cut at 02:42 BST on Wednesday.

It said engineers were on the scene and were working to restore power but that they weren’t expecting everyone to be reconnected until 12:00.

A red warning for extreme heat has come into force in parts of England and Wales, lasting until 21:00 on Thursday.

The power cuts affect CV12 9 postcodes, which includes areas around Marston Lane, Furnace Road and Regent Street.

In a statement, a National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: “We are responding to a high voltage fault in the Bedworth area, which initially affected around 2,500 customers.

“We have already restored power to the majority of those impacted, with approximately 1,000 customers remaining without supply.

“Our engineers are on site working hard to safely restore supplies, and we expect the remaining customers to be reconnected by around midday.

“We understand how disruptive power cuts can be, and we’re putting a range of support in place for affected customers. Our Priority Services Register customers are being proactively contacted to ensure they receive the help they need.”

Naomi Bedding has a one-year-old daughter and lives on Marston Lane. She said the power outage had “massively impacted” her.

“Our electric went around 2.30am,” she said.

“I am a priority because of my daughter. I called national grid at 5am and they said it’s a cable underground and I should ask for help off family or friends as it could be 6pm before it’s back on for us.

“We are in a heatwave so no fan meant a very unhappy one-year-old.”
