A number of homes have been evacuated due to a security alert in Dunmurry.

It follows the discovery of a suspect device in the Colinvale area on Friday morning.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have said a public safety operation is under way.

Cordons are in place and the public are advised to avoid the area or use an alternative route, if possible.

Sinn Féin councillor Caoimhín McCann has condemned those responsible for leaving the suspect device and said it was causing “major disruption” for residents.

“Those involved have absolutely nothing to offer our community,” McCann said.

“Sally Gardens Community Centre is available for residents as the security alert continues.”
