Firefighters in San Juan Capistrano in California used a helicopter to rescue a horse after an initial plan to guide him up the steep hill failed.

The horse, named Deuce, had recently moved from Hawaii and was getting used to his new surroundings when he slipped down an embankment.

Exhausted after the sedative wore off, Deuce needed help standing up. Firefighters then used a specialised rigging system to hoist him to his feet.
