Hampshire must win final game to qualify for Global Super League final

Hampshire’s Toby Albert has backed his team in their must-win final group game against Victoria on Thursday in the Global Super League.

After victory in the opening match they have now fallen to back-to-back defeats in the 20-over competition, losing to Guyana Amazon Warriors on Sunday.

Hampshire need victory against top of the table Victoria to have any chance of making it to Friday’s final.

“It’s been hard chasing in these games,” Albert told BBC Radio Solent.

“I reckon this wicket was the best one we’ve played on so far but it still wasn’t easy, Guyana are a good side and probably on paper the strongest side in the competition.

“The feeling is that we have to go and win our last game and you never know what could happen, it’s great learning being over here but so different anything we play on at home, it’s only going to help us going forward.”

Batting first against Guyana, Hampshire made 146-6 in their 20 overs – Shan Masood top scoring with 79.

But they were unable to restrict the hosts who eased home to win by four wickets with 10 balls to spare.

After each side has played all four of their group games, the top two will play in the final.

Hampshire are third in the table, two points behind the top two – Guyana and Victoria.
