Mrs Myers told BBC Radio Cumbria that his kindness inspired her to continue his legacy by asking people to give someone a gift on her late husband’s birthday.
“Even it is just a hug, a book, a nice card, a meal or a smile, just give somebody something nice on 8 September,” she said.
“He would have loved seeing people being kind to each other. His heart was so big.”
Mrs Myers said she written a social media post to promote the gesture but she “never expected” such a big response.
“How wonderful is that? The Dave Day energy is carrying on and that’s the spirit that I wanted to keep,” she added.
