Gypsies and travellers attend 248th Appleby Horse Fair

The Appleby Horse Fair, which runs until Tuesday, sees thousands of Gypsies and travellers pitch up in Westmorland, Cumbria.

Now in its 248th year, the fair is “the biggest date in the calendar” for the travelling community.

Attendees say the weekend is about “the horses, the dealing” and “the buzz”.

However, a horse was overworked and died last Wednesday before the fair, the RSPCA said, as it appealed for information.
