Multiple gunshots have been heard near the White House, according to US media reports.
Sky News’ US partner network NBC News said its White House team heard the shots while they were gathered on the north lawn.
They were rushed inside the White House’s press briefing room by Secret Service agents.
The White House is now on lockdown, NBC News said.
FBI director Kash Patel says law enforcement authorities are responding.
The Secret Service said on X that it was “aware of reports of shots fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW” – one block from the White House – and was “working to corroborate the information with personnel on the ground.”
There are no immediate reports of any injuries.
