Golf: What is a career grand slam and who has won it?

A golf grand slam is where a player wins all four of the sport’s major titles in their career.

The four major titles are the Masters, the Open, the US Open and the PGA Championship.

A total of six players in men’s golf have achieved this feat, with Rory McIlroy joining that exclusive club in 2025.

Northern Ireland’s McIlroy became the first player for 25 years to complete a career grand slam, with the last being Tiger Woods in 2000.

McIlroy also became the first golfer born in either Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales or England to complete a career grand slam.

American duo Woods and Jack Nicklaus have both completed the grand slam three times.

While no golfer has ever won all four majors in the same year, Woods did win all four consecutively across 2000 and 2001 – known as the ‘Tiger Slam’.
