Two girls have been treated in hospital following a hit-and-run in Midlothian.

The two pedestrians, aged 12 and 13, were hit by a car on Westhouses Road in Mayfield, in Dalkeith, between 17:20 and 17:30 on Friday.

The car did not stop at the scene. Police said inquiries were ongoing to find the black car involved.

The two girls have now been released from hospital and police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

PC Ryan Prentice said: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are keen to trace the driver of the vehicle involved.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to get in touch with us.

“Any drivers with dash-cam footage which may assist our enquiries is also asked to contact us.”
