George Delaney: St Helens forward signs new four-year deal with club

St Helens forward George Delaney has signed a new deal to remain with the Super League club until the end of the 2028 season.

The 20-year-old came through the club’s academy and made his first-team debut off the bench for Saints in 2022 against Castleford.

He went on to have a breakthrough campaign in 2023, making 20 appearances, before turning out 25 times last season to help the club reach the play-offs.

“I’ve loved the first two years that I’ve been in the first team and have been very lucky getting a handful of games every year,” he said.

“I’ve fit into the group really well and I’m not just a young kid who is quite quiet any more.

“I’ve watched the success that this club has had and I’m very confident we’re going to have a lot of success in the future, and that’s why I have decided to sign again.”

Delaney received a call-up to the senior England squad for their mid-season international against France last year but fell short of making his debut appearance.

Following an impressive 2024, however, he was shortlisted for the end-of-season Super League Young Player of the Year award.

“It is a huge coup for us as a club to keep hold of someone like George who is so young and so good, and for him to feel that our environment will remain the best for him to bring out his best,” Saints head coach Paul Wellens said.

“I know he enjoys being here, and his stature within the group has continued to rise, and we all think very highly of him.”
