A gangland killer has admitted continuing to head up a drug trafficking gang from behind bars to pay for a lavish lifestyle for his partner and daughter.
Robert “Birdman” O’Hara paid for his family to live in a £635,000 flat in Glasgow’s upmarket Park Circus area while he served a life sentence in prison.
The High Court in Glasgow heard the 47-year-old was able to continue making so much money that he tried to buy a £225,000 Lamborghini.
Police seized more than £300,000 of high-value watches, jewellery, designer clothes and trainers as well as cash when they raided properties linked to O’Hara’s gang.
O’Hara had been convicted of murder, gun and drugs charges in 2005.
It followed an attack on rival Paul McDowall who was stabbed to death just yards from his home in the city’s Possilpark.
The 25-year-old was attacked by two men – with one of them in phone contact with O’Hara while carrying out the fatal assault.
O’Hara appeared at the High Court in Glasgow via video link from HMP Addiewell to face the latest charges.
He pleaded guilty – through his KC Donald Findlay – to a charge of directing others to become involved in serious organised crime between 13 September 2018 and 28 May 2021.
O’Hara was given an extra nine-year sentence by judge Lord Harrower.
The judge said he had reduced the prison term from 12 years due to the guilty plea.
