Further murder arrest after man stabbed near Hanley Park

A further arrest has been made following the death of a man stabbed in Stoke-on-Trent, with Staffordshire Police arresting a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

The attack took place on Thursday on Ridgway Road, Shelton, police said, with officers called at about 19:40 BST.

The victim, in his 40s, was found by members of the public near Hanley Park and died at the scene.

Det Ch Insp Ian Fitzgerald said: “I would like to thank the community for their help and support with this investigation so far. Officers continue to work tirelessly to track down those responsible.”

The force confirmed that a 20-year-old man and a 25-year old man, both from Stoke-on-Trent, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder, remain in custody for questioning.

A 17-year-old boy from Newcastle-under-Lyme who was arrested has been bailed, and a 24-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been released with no further action.

Fitzgerald added: “I’d urge anyone who we have not spoken to and who thinks they may have relevant information to share with us to get in touch as soon as possible.”
