Former head of police watchdog Michael Lockwood denies rape

The former head of the police watchdog has pleaded not guilty to raping and indecently assaulting a girl under 16.

Michael Lockwood, 65, from Epsom, Surrey, denied three counts of rape and six counts of indecent assault allegedly committed between October 1985 and March 1986.

He is due to face a three-week Old Bailey trial from 1 July.

Mr Lockwood was director general of the Independent Office for Police Conduct from 2018 to 2022.
