Former borough council leader charged with sexual assault

The former Labour leader of Melton Borough Council has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman.

Leicestershire Police said Philip Allnatt, from Melton Mowbray, was charged with one count of sexual assault on Friday, in relation to an alleged incident in February 2026.

The 76-year-old also faces a charge of alleged harassment without violence between December 2025 and February 2026, the force said.

Allnatt is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on 14 September.

Allnatt was elected borough council leader in May 2023 but announced on 2 April he would be stepping down from the role due to ill health.

He still sits on the council representing the Melton Egerton Ward.
