Five men jailed over multi-million pound drug money ring

Five gang members have been jailed for their multi-million pound dirty cash operation.

They were accused of collecting, storing and moving criminal cash – most of which related to payments for cocaine, heroin and cannabis – between January 2020 and June 2020. However none of the men were involved in the supply or storage of drugs.

Anthony Carroll Sr, 57, his son Anthony Carroll Jr, 37, Ryan Carberry, 46, Marc Cooper, 34, and Michael Monaghan, 37, were caught after police broke into the EncroChat phone network in 2020.

They all pleaded guilty to an organised crime charge at the High Court in Glasgow.

Carroll Sr, of Glasgow’s Milton, was jailed for four-and-a-half-years and Carroll Jr, from Glasgow’s Maryhill, received three years.

Carberry, of Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, got three years and three months, Cooper, of Maryhill, was sentenced to two years and nine months and Monaghan, from Glasgow’s Drumchapel area, will be locked up for three years.

Judge Lord Scott told them at the sentencing: “You each took part knowingly for months in a significant organised crime operation.

“Based on the snapshots and the scale of the money involved shows that it was a multi-million pound operation.”
