Five men have been arrested and charged in connection with a £3.5m drugs recovery in Aberdeenshire.

Police seized the drugs at an address on High Street in Fraserburgh on Friday. Substances including ecstasy, amphetamine and mephedrone were recovered.

Two men, aged 26 and 30, were arrested and charged in connection and appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Monday. A further two men, aged 23 and 35, were arrested and charged on Tuesday and appeared at the court on Wednesday.

A fifth man, aged 26, was arrested and charged on Wednesday and is expected to appear at Peterhead on Thursday.

Det Insp John Pirie said it was one of the largest drugs recoveries in the north east and would have a “huge impact” on the illegal supply chain in Scotland.

“This work underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy,” he said.
