A small fishing boat has run aground on Bains beach in Lerwick after taking on water overnight.

HM Coastguard said it was alerted to the incident at about 03:30 with confirmation that the one person on board was safely ashore.

The Lerwick Port Authority support vessel, RNLI lifeboat and coastguard rescue were sent to the scene.

A coastguard spokesperson said its counter-pollution team was monitoring the situation while harbour authorities and the council discussed a salvage plan.
