First weekend of campaigning for Scotland’s party leaders

Scottish party leaders have set out their first pitch to voters in their first weekend of general election campaigning

First minister and SNP leader John Swinney said it was his party’s goal to “end austerity” caused by the Conservatives’ 14 years in government.

Meanwhile, Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross said he wanted to end the SNP’s “obsession” with independence.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said he would campaign for “change”, and getting rid of the Tory government was “an opportunity and chance that Scotland cannot afford to miss”.

Alex Cole-Hamilton, the Scottish Liberal Democrats leader, said his party hoped to focus on access to healthcare and that Scots should be entitled to seeing a GP “at the first time of asking”.
