First look at Sky crime series Prisoner filmed in Wales

The first image has been released of forthcoming crime drama Prisoner filmed in Wales which comes out later this year.

The six-part series follows a prison officer and trained killer, inadvertently bound together, who become the target of a deadly manhunt.

Partly funded by the Welsh government, the show stars former Bafta nominee Tahar Rahim and Bafta winner Izuka Hoyle as the two leads, and features Ray Donovan star Eddie Marsan and Catherine McCormack.

The production team, which includes director Otto Bathurst of Peaky Blinders’ fame, was spotted filming across Cardiff.

Hoyle plays Amber Todd, a young prison transport officer tasked with taking prisoner Tibor Stone (Rahim) to court to testify against an elite crime syndicate.

But the pair become the sole survivors of a brutal ambush on their convoy, pitching them into a race to reach their intended destination, handcuffed to one another and with the syndicate hot on their heels.

The thriller was created by Oscar-nominated writer Matt Charman, best known for his work on the Steven Spielberg film Bridge of Spies.

Prisoner is the second Sky drama filmed in Wales last year to be broadcast in 2026, with Under Salt Marsh, starring Yellowstone actress Kelly Reilly and shot across north and west Wales, also due for release.

In the UK, French actor Rahim is best known for his roles in BBC drama The Serpent and the Golden Globe-winning film The Mauritanian, opposite Jodie Foster, having made his name in the 2009 French-language film A Prophet.

Making her film debut in 2021’s Mary Queen of Scots, Scottish star Hoyle has featured in both the film and TV version of Boiling Point with Stephen Graham, as well as Channel 4 sitcom Big Boys.
