A fire near a railway track has caused major disruption to train services.

National Rail reported a blaze next to a track in Knebworth near Stevenage at 18:56 BST.

A spokesperson said all lines were blocked and that services between Stevenage and London Kings Cross may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it sent one engine to the scene and that it expected the incident to be dealt with quickly.

Commuters were warned that services to King’s Lynn, Ely, Peterborough, Cambridge and Letchworth Garden City could also be affected.

Great Northern and Thameslink rail operators said replacement buses were requested.
