Police were called to Sheuchan Street in Stranraer near the junction with Park Lane

An 85-year-old woman has died after being hit by a van in Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway.

Emergency services were called to Sheuchan Street near the junction with Park Lane at about 10:20 on Saturday.

The woman was taken to hospital where she later died. No-one else was injured.

Police said the crash involved a white Vauxhall Vivaro van and urged anyone with information to contact them.

The road was closed for investigation and re-opened at about 19:15 on Saturday.

Sgt Scott Costley said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. Also, if you were driving in the area please check any dash-cam footage you have to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation.”
