Father and son secure future of Mudeford Ferry in Christchurch

The new owners said they were committed to maintaining the heritage of the service while investing in its future.

Max, 27, said the ferry had “a fantastic heritage and a vital role in our community”.

Now, a father himself, he added: “We’re committed to maintaining a safe, reliable and welcoming service for everyone.

“We see ourselves as custodians of something that means a great deal to so many people.”

The pair paid tribute to the previous owner, Capt Paul Derham, for his years of dedication, operating the ferry and for helping to ensure a smooth transition.

The seasonal service connects Christchurch Quay and Mudeford Sandbank and is used by local residents, beach hut owners, walkers, cyclists and visitors.

The Goldings said passengers could expect the same friendly service as they look to build on the ferry’s long history.
