Family’s tribute to grandfather after fatal crash in Edinburgh

A family has paid tribute to their “much loved” grandfather who died in a crash in Edinburgh.

John Fairgrieve, 75, was driving a silver Ford C-Max which crashed on the A1 at the Newcraighall junction at about 09:00 on Saturday.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he later died.

Mr Fairgrieve’s family said they were grateful that no-one else had been hurt in the crash and were deeply saddened by their loss.

They added: “We would like to give our thanks to all the emergency services for the care and support they provided and also to those that stopped to help at the scene.”

Police inquiries are ongoing and the force has urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to get in touch via the non-emergency line., external
