The extradition hearing of a former teacher accused of historical sex abuse charges in Edinburgh has been set for 16 April.
Iain Wares, 86, has been accused of abuse by scores of former pupils of Edinburgh Academy and Fettes College, where he taught in the 1960s and 1970s. Hi8s accusers include BBC presenter Nicky Campbell.
Wares now lives in Cape Town, where the High Court ruled in August last year that he could be extradited on three charges to face trial in Scotland.
But the extradition was delayed as UK authorities looked to submit further charges against him.
The extradition hearing will be held in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town.
In a brief appearance on Tuesday, Wares had his bail of 10,000 SA Rand (about £450) extended to his next court date.
South Africa’s national prosecuting authority said the charges include 60 counts of sexual assault, four of rape and 25 of assault.
Wares was arrested under a UK extradition warrant 23 October 2025 when he handed himself over and was subsequently released on bail.
