BBCResidents have been asked to leave their homes after a suspicious item was discovered.
Avon and Somerset Police said a member of the public found a suspicious item in a block of flats in Argyle Road, Bristol, just before 12:00 GMT on Saturday.
Residents have been asked to temporarily leave their homes by police and traffic is being diverted as a precaution while a specialist assessment of the item takes place.
The force said well-rehearsed plans were in place to minimise any potential risk to the public.
