Electric scooter battery fire wrecks family home at Dinas Powys

A family home was wrecked in a “matter of moments” in a fire caused by an electric scooter.

Chelsea Ann Buckler said the fire, which started in the hallway of the house in Dinas Powys, Vale of Glamorgan, had “completely destroyed our home and everything inside it”.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engine crews were called to tackle the blaze, which affected two floors of the property at Caerphilly Close, just after midnight on Friday 9 January. It confirmed the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery.

“Watching it all disappear is something that still doesn’t feel real,” said Buckler’s post on a fundraising site.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love, prayers, and support – it means more than we can ever put into words.

“With my five siblings and two parents, the road ahead feels overwhelming.”
