A 3.3 magnitude earthquake has been felt in homes across Perthshire.

The epicentre was in Pubil in Glen Lyon.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) recorded the tremor, which was at a depth of 3km (1.9 miles), at about 07:25 on Monday.

Residents in Callander, Tyndrum, and Grandtully all reported hearing and feeling the earthquake.

The Volcano Discovery website said it had received 90 reports about the earthquake.

One Crieff resident posted on the site: “House shuddered accompanied by low rumbling sound for two, three second tremors separated by about one second.

“Something fell over in the loft and a small round garden lamp fell off a window sill.”

Another person, from Pitlochry, posted: “I live in a static caravan and experienced up and down movement, it was like a giant walking past our van.”

BGS detects about 300 earthquakes every year in the UK, but only about a tenth of these are felt or heard by people.
