Swimmer Duncan Scott has been named as the Sportsperson of the Year at the Scottish Sports Awards after taking his Olympic medal haul to eight this summer.

The 27-year-old from Alloa surpassed Chris Hoy as Scotland’s most decorated Olympian with eight medals in total after claiming gold as part of the 4x200m men’s relay team and silver in the 200m individual medley in Paris.

Scott also took the male athlete of the year prize, with double Olympic bronze-medal winning triathlete Beth Potter taking the female award.

Potter finished third in the individual event in Paris before doing the same in the mixed relay.

Sammi Kinghorn, who returned from the Paralympics with a haul of one gold and four silvers, was named female Para-athlete of the year, with Stephen McGuire taking the male award after his boccia gold medal at the Games.

Scotland woman’s cricket side were crowned team of the year after making their first appearance at a T20 World Cup, while Glasgow Warriors took the moment of the year prize for winning rugby’s URC.
