Dublin: Man dies after assault at Blackhorse Place

A man has died after a “fatal assault” in Dublin, gardaí (Irish police) have said.

He was found with serious injuries on a footpath at Blackhorse Place in the early hours of Sunday.

He was brought to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The scene of the assault has been cordoned off for forensic examination.

A post-mortem examination to determine the cause of the man’s death is to be arranged.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in either Blackhorse Place or Blackhorse Avenue between 02:00 and 03:30 local time on Sunday to contact them.

“This investigation is being coordinated from an incident room at the Bridewell Garda Station under the direction of a senior investigating officer,” a garda statement said.
