Drug smugglers jump off boat in Suffolk to avoid arrest

The moment two drug smugglers jumped off a boat to try to escape arrest was captured on video.

It was filmed by Border Force officers who intercepted the vessel near Benacre Broad in Suffolk on 24 June.

Bruce Knowles, 55, from Dereham and Ferhat Gumrukguoglu, 31, from the Netherlands jumped overboard after refusing to stop their rigid inflatable boat (RIB), which was found to contain 350kg of cocaine.

The men were later arrested and pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to importing a controlled drug, and the judge said both would face a “significant sentence”.
